Additional questions to ask yourself about your character. These should help you flesh out their backstory and, ideally, help them feel a little more "real" and relatable.


QUESTIONS:

• What was their childhood like?

• How is their relationship with their parents? With their siblings?

• How did they do in school? (Academically? Socially?)

• What are three words their best friend would use to describe them?

• What was their hometown like?

• How would you describe their lifestyle? Do they eat healthy? Do they exercise?

• Are they a messy person, or an organized one?

• Are they poor, wealthy? Do they live above or below their means?

• What element would you associate your character with?

• What Hogwarts house would your character be in? Why?

• Does your character have a strict set of morals they follow? What are they?

• Do they have any notable possessions or sentimental objects that mean a lot to them?

• What are your character’s political / social views like?

• Does your character have an accent? A stutter? What is their voice like?

• If your character has a non-human or magical form, what are their supernatural abilities, weaknesses, or strengths?

• Does your character have long-term or short-term goals? What are they?

• What is the meaning behind their name? Is it fitting for their personality?

• Why did their parents give them that name? Did it belong to a relative, or did they just like it?

• What is their astrological sign? Does the description sound accurate to their character?

• If they have any scars/marks on their body, how did they get there?

• What motivates your character? How did they come to this motivation / goal?

• What type of car/vehicle does your character drive?

• If they have any nicknames, how did those nicknames come about?

• If the character does drugs, what caused them to start? What kind do they do? How do they get them?

If your character doesn’t do drugs, why not?

• How does your character view marriage and having a family?

• What type of humor does your character have? (Dry, childish, dark, self-deprecating?)

• Who is your character’s best friend? How did they meet? How often do they talk?

• What sorts of lies does your character believe or hold as truth, either about themselves or the world around them?

• What sorts of obstacles or challenges does your character find themselves confronted with over and over, and why?

• When faced with failure or difficulty, what does your character tell themselves to keep motivated?

• What is your character’s clothing style like? What do they usually wear?

• What is their secret dream or hobby and why is it a secret?
